Have you ever felt a nudge from God to do something or call someone? Pastor Ed today talked about the story of Philip who was prompted by the Holy Spirit to be at a certain place at a certain time--but God didn't tell him why. By obeying the prompting of the Spirit, Philip encounters an Ethiopian eunuch who, although outlawed from becoming a Jew was still drawn to the faith and reading a portion of Hebrew scripture he had obtained in Jerusalem. Philip offers to explain the scripture to him and the man declares his faith in Christ and his desire to be baptized. Pastor Ed challenged the congregation to learn from Philip: to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit, to be alert to our surroundings, and to share what we have learned about Christ with others.

The eunuch asked Philip, “Was Isaiah talking about himself or someone else?” So Philip began with this same Scripture and then used many others to tell him about Jesus.
As they rode along, they came to a small body of water, and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! Why can’t I be baptized?”
“You can,” Philip answered, “if you believe with all your heart.”
And the eunuch replied, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
He stopped the chariot, and they went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
